First of all Amtrak does not service Grand Central Station in Manhattan anymore. Amtrak has moved all services to Pennsylvania Station in Manhattan. Second I believe that the Beltline project can host both LRT, HSR, and Amtrak. It's not rocket science! The problem is people in Georgia unless you are from cities with viable transit are always opposing transit. Gwinnett County was good for doing that until people got tired of sitting in I-85 traffic then came Gwinnett County Transit. Third Georgia studies the heck out of transit options they should learn from Va and N.C. who are well ahead of Georgia in implementing transit(They Get It!!). Last but, not least I am a conductor on Amtrak, and conducotrs would rather not have to back trains up for short distances becuase we would have to be the engineers eyes on the rear of the train and we are not engineers. Your proposal on that situation is out the door, and it is time consuming to do such a thing along with other situations that could arise. Moreover, depending on situation you have to have fill out paperwork to make such a move thus tying up the railroad. The Beltline option is the best option to host both LRT, HSR, and Amtrak.
