Good for Maria Saporta for once again providing a forum for thoughtful, knowledgable individuals and ideas. Some truly creative, visionary, yet practical, much needed thinking about Georgia’s on-going and growing transportation challenge. Unfortunately, by the 2011 Legislative Session,actually in the next few months probably; we will be forced to return $87,000,000.00 of Federal funds which were hard fought for by John Lewis and others for the purpose of emplementing commuter rail to Lovejoy (now Griffen), due only to our leadership's unwillingness to come up with $ 27,000,000.00 in matching Operating funding. I, and many others are frightened of may be the implications of turning our nose up at this money; and how it will affect the Fed's willingness to support our transit hopes in the future.
