Stephanie Stuckey joins Southface as director of sustainability services
Stephanie Stuckey has joined the staff of Southface, the veteran Atlanta non-profit organization that promotes sustainability of homes, workplaces and communities. Stuckey will take the position of director of sustainability services, following her departure in May from her position as the City of Atlanta’s chief resilience officer.

Atlanta Housing authority to vote on Wednesday on land sale to Southface
The board of the Atlanta Housing authority is looking to sell 1.8 acres of its Civic Center property to Southface Energy Institute, the environmental organization that promotes green building practices in metro Atlanta and Georgia.
According to the posted agenda of its meeting on Oct. 31, the housing authority is seeking “authorization to seek disposition approval” from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and “authorization to consummate the sale” of 1.8 acres of the Civic Center site.

Civic Center sale to AHA places Southface campus on endangered list
For 40 years, Southface has been leading the way in making Atlanta a more sustainable city.
The environmentally-focused nonprofit has been a pioneer in green building practices – and it deserves much of the credit for Atlanta’s national reputation as a city committed to energy and water conservation.
But now Southface is facing its own challenges – likely having to move from its headquarters, now on a .74-acre site along Pine Street near Piedmont, where it has been since 1995.

Column: Environmental group Southface names Andrea Pinabell president

The pioneering environmental organization Southface has named Andrea Pinabell to be its next president beginning Jan. 1.
Pinabell currently is the vice president of sustainability and global citizenship of Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, where she has been for five years.

Column: Dennis Creech to step down at Southface after 38 years

Dennis Creech, executive director of Southface since its inception 38 years ago, will be stepping down from the sustainable energy nonprofit he founded when it names a new leader.
“I’m not retiring; I’m transitioning,” said Creech, one of Georgia’s most respected voices on sustainability and energy-efficient buildings.
Southface has retained Boardwalk Consulting to conduct a national search for Southface’s next leader, which Creech said likely would happen by the time he turns 66 in June.

The most recent employment numbers show that opportunities are improving across the nation. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the September 2014 national unemployment rate of 5.9 percent is the lowest it has been since the beginning of the Great Recession.
However, this downward trend is not distributed equally across the states. Georgia has the highest unemployment rate of any state in the nation, tipping the scales at 7.9 percent.

Marci Reed leaves AIA – Georgia to return to executive job at Southface

Marci B. Reed will be rejoining Southface beginning May 1 – as the environmental organization’s chief development and communications officer.
In her new capacity, she will oversee the fundraising and communications staff, manage strategic partnerships, direct key management initiatives and serve as a spokesperson for the organization.
From 2000 to 2006, Reed served as Southface’s first director of development and communications. Most recently Reed has been serving as executive director of the American Institute of Architects, Georgia Association.

Dennis Creech of Southface receiving top Hanley award on Wednesday

The founder and executive director of Southface — Dennis Creech — is receiving a prestigious award for his contributions to environmentally-friendly housing.
Creech is the 2013 winner of the Hanley Award for Vision and Leadership in Sustainable Housing — an award that comes with a $50,000 prize.
The award is considered to be the industry’s premier award that recognizes achievements in environmental building, and it is sponsored by the Hanley Foundation, Hanley Wood and ECOHOME and BUILDER magazines.

Dennis Creech of Southface receives ABC’s environmental “lifetime achievement” award

It was so Dennis Creech.
Upon being honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Atlanta Business Chronicle’s 2012 Environmental Awards breakfast Friday, Creech said the honor really belongs to all the people he has worked with for the past 34 years.
Creech, who was a founder of Southface in 1978, has been advocating for green building practices for more than three decades. Due to his leadership, metro Atlanta has become a leader for green building with some of the highest concentration of LEED certified buildings in a metro area.

Southface welcomes summer and the sun with baby goats

The sun has set on the longest day of the year — the Summer Solstice.
Southface, the Atlanta-based organization that promotes green building practices, held its annual ice cream party this evening to celebrate the changing of the seasons and the sunniest day of the year.

Southface promotes green building through Greenprints

For 12 years, Southface has been putting on its Greenprints conference to let builders, architects, planners and environmentalist know the latest in green building technology.
Ideas that might have seemed novel or forward thinking 12 years ago have now become accepted and expected.
“The green economy is going to be the only future economy that we will have available to us,” said John Straube, a building science engineer from Ontario, Canada who is an international expert in energy efficient buildings and was one of the keynote speakers at this year’s Greenprints conference.
