ChooseATL, a regional campaign focused on attracting and retaining millennials to metro Atlanta, in partnership with Intern Navigator, a platform for employers to share internship, Co-op, and entry-level job postings with 35 colleges and universities across the metro region, recently launched ChooseATL After 5 to provide Atlanta-based interns insight on the region’s culture and unmatched quality of life.
The first program of its kind, ChooseATL After 5 introduced more than 500 interns to rich experiences outside the companies they work for as well as helped them make professional and peer-to-peer connections. The four events held in July provided attendees with a diverse mix of VIP experiences at some of the region’s most notable hotspots and an up-close look at metro Atlanta’s culture.

The initiative kicked off with an inaugural event at the popular entertainment and event venue, Top Golf Midtown. During the event, attendees not only had a chance to network, but they were able to have a little friendly competition as they took swings on the driving range!

As noted in various research studies, millennials favor walkable communities.  In fact, according to the 2015 National Community and Transportation Preference Survey, millennials prefer walking as a mode of transportation by 12 percentage points over driving. To show the walkability of metro Atlanta, After 5’s second event was a restaurant crawl along the Atlanta BeltLine.

With the BeltLine providing a network of public parks, multi-use trails, and transit along a historic 22-mile railroad corridor circling downtown and connecting many neighborhoods directly to each other, attendees were able to see many options that support a work, live, and play culture. During the crawl, stops were made at several popular spots along the BeltLine including General Assembly, King of Pops, Parish: The Brasserie and Neighborhood Café, and Two Urban Licks.

The initiative culminated with the interns getting a historic perspective of Atlanta with a tour of the Center for Civil and Human Rights followed by a farewell reception on the MAC rooftop. The ChooseATL movement highlights Atlanta as a place where one can make their mark. CCHR affirms this message by showing the critical role Atlanta played in the Civil Rights Movement and the way Atlanta continues to be at the forefront of change by shining a light on human rights issues globally. The evening ended with a farewell reception featuring Lamar Williams Jr.
ChooseATL is a regional initiative focused on attracting and retaining top talent and intentionally growing the region’s prosperity in the global economy. Other ChooseATL initiatives include the Ultimate Job Interview and the Tell Your Story campaign on ChooseATL.com.
Intern Navigator is a free job posting website that automatically sends postings to 35 colleges and universities in the metro Atlanta area. With more than 70 percent of internships converting to full-time employment, Intern Navigator focuses on keeping educated talent in metro Atlanta through internships.
ChooseATL After 5 will host more events in 2017 to continue to provide interns with more opportunities to experience the culture of Atlanta.
