MARTA OPENS FRESH MARTA MARKET AT BANKHEAD STATION

The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) recently opened it’s fifth Fresh MARTA Market at Bankhead Station, located at 1335 Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway in Atlanta.

Initially launched in 2015, Fresh MARTA Markets provide nutritious, affordable, locally-sourced produce in neighborhoods considered “food deserts” or areas where the availability of fresh food is limited.

“We realize all communities don’t have adequate access to fresh and affordable produce,” said MARTA General Manager & CEO Jeffrey Parker. “These markets enable MARTA to bridge the nutritional gap from the convenience of our rail stations.”

MARTA operates Fresh MARTA Markets one-day per week at West End, College Park, H.E. Holmes, Five Points, and now Bankhead rail stations, from May through November.

The markets accept cash, credit, debit, and Electonic Benefit Transfer (EBT)/Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). SNAP is doubled at the market, meaning $5 swiped is $10 to spend.
