The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) will host the annual State of MARTA breakfast on Friday, Jan. 5 from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the W Hotel Midtown.

The event, co-hosted by the Council for Quality Growth, provides a financial and service report card for 2017 and sets goals for the new year. Atlanta journalist and former 11Alive news anchor Brenda Wood will emcee the event which features a video of the year’s highlights.

MARTA Interim GM/CEO Elizabeth O’Neill will present the state of MARTA address, with an emphasis on this year’s theme; Build. Connect. Innovate.

“From building transit-oriented developments (TODs), to connecting the city after the I-85 bridge collapse, to offering innovative ways to make the daily commute easier and more enjoyable, 2017 has been a year filled with many successes,” said MARTA Interim GM/CEO Elizabeth O’Neill.

Ms. O’Neill will speak about the importance of MARTA’s partnerships with other regional service providers during special events and the Authority’s role in economic development, helping to attract companies such as State Farm, West Rock, Mercedes-Benz, and possibly Amazon to the region.

The keynote address will be given by Philip Washington, CEO of the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority and past Chair of the American Public Transportation Association (APTA). MARTA Board of Directors Chairman Robert L. Ashe will also offer remarks to an audience comprised of MARTA stakeholders, local politicians and business leaders, and supporters of public transportation.
