An inaugural storytelling festival will bring renowned artists to the Southwest Arts Center on Sept. 11 and Sept. 12.
The city of South Fulton’s Department of Cultural Affairs is hosting the Roots & Routes Festival featuring nationally recognized storytellers. Southwest Arts Center is located at 915 New Hope Road S.W., in South Fulton.
An opening-night performance at 7 p.m. Sept. 11 will feature Bobby Norfolk, Andy Offutt Irwin, Mama KoKu and Jerry G. White.
Mama KoKu has spent more than 15 years creating and performing educational programs for the Fulton County Schools Teaching Museums.
Norfolk began his career as a stand-up comedian in 1975, according to his website, and is a recipient of the National Storytelling Network’s Oracle Award.
He returns for a 7 p.m. show Sept. 12 that will also feature Amanda Lawrence, Gwendolyn J. Napier, known as “Miss LuvDrop the Storyteller,” and Irwin, a frequent performer at the National Storytelling Festival who is known for bringing an array of characters to life.
The storytellers will join other artists for workshops and events from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 12.
Organizers are asking attendees to register online for the events, some of which are free. Admission to the evening performances is $15.
While the registration process may appear cumbersome, the lineup appears worth the effort. The city of South Fulton’s website will take visitors to the full list of events and registration options.
