The Delta Air Lines Foundation has awarded a $1 million grant to Agnes Scott College to support its Global Journeys program, which introduces first-year students to global issues and leadership development.

As part of the college’s Summit program, Global Journeys explores global themes in the class curriculum before students travel to an international destination.

The grant was awarded by Gail Grimmett, president and CEO of the Delta Flight Museum, during the college’s Women’s Global Leadership Conference on Oct. 6.

The funding will help provide all first-year students with the Global Journeys experience “regardless of their ability to afford it,” Grimmett said in the statement.

The Delta Foundation previously awarded a $1 million grant to Agnes Scott College in 2022.

Global Journeys students have traveled to such places as Morocco, Ghana, Navajo Nation, Iceland and Paris.

“This is such an incredible investment in Agnes Scott students,” said college President Leocadia Zak of the grant. “This grant ensures we can continue to provide life-changing learning experiences that our students can apply early in their undergraduate education, and continue to build upon during their education here at Agnes, and throughout their lives and careers.”

Grimmett emphasized the importance of exposing students to different cultures and perspectives.

“The leaders our communities and companies need are curious, adaptable and comfortable working across cultures,” Grimmett said. “Agnes Scott builds those qualities into every student’s education from the start, and that is exactly the kind of preparation The Delta Air Lines Foundation wants to invest in.”

“Innovation Inspiration” was the theme of this year’s Women’s Global Leadership Conference, which featured community and business leaders as speakers.

Olympic track and field gold medalist, Sanya Richards-Ross, was the headlining guest in conversation with Rose Scott, host of  WABE’s “Closer Look with Rose Scott.” Grimmett moderated a panel titled “Women Who Mean Business.”

Agnes Scott College is in the midst of a capital campaign to raise $120 million to support undergraduate and graduate student programs. The comprehensive campaign has raised $87 million toward the goal.
