In this video, Atlanta Habitat President & CEO Rosalyn Merrick recounts her experience attending the funeral of former U.S. President Jimmy Carter in Washington, D.C. with Atlanta Habitat’s 1,000th homeowner, Linnette.
Highlights include:
- Carter was an early champion of sustainability, installing solar panels on the White House (in 1979).
- He understood the importance of climate change and its impact on all of us.
- Atlanta was one of the first sites for the Jimmy Carter Work Project, a week-long blitz build of 21 homes in 1988.
- Jimmy Carter joined Atlanta Habitat for its 25th anniversary, and homeowners for the 1,000th and 1,001st homes were part of the celebration.
- Linette is the 1,000th Atlanta Habitat homeowner, and she joined Rosalyn in Washington, D.C. to attend President Carter’s memorial service.
