For more than 35 years, Chris Womack has served in the U.S. energy sector, becoming a visionary leader – meeting surging energy demands, prioritizing reliability for customers, and championing groundbreaking technologies. Outside of the U.S. energy sector, Chris maintains that unwavering advocacy and leadership for community initiatives driving progress in Atlanta.
U.S. Advocate, Atlanta Hero
Before entering the private energy sector, Chris Womack spent his formative years on Capitol Hill, first as a Legislative Aide to Rep. Leon E. Panetta and later as Staff Director for the Subcommittee on Personnel and Police within the Committee on House Administration. During this period of public service, Chris developed a nuanced understanding of how public policy becomes law and sharpened his leadership skills while navigating complex regulatory environments. He also learned not only the importance of advocacy, but how to pursue it with the greatest impact.
He brought that knowledge, experience, and strategic insight to Atlanta’s efforts to address homelessness. His involvement began as co-chair of the strategic planning process for Partners for HOME (PATH), Atlanta’s collaborative organization leading the community’s response to homelessness. Through this work, Chris helped shape a long-term vision for addressing homelessness through coordinated, data-driven strategies and strong partnerships across the public, private and nonprofit sectors.
Building on that foundation, Chris later served as Co-Chair of the Atlanta Rising campaign. Atlanta Rising unites influential partners to address homelessness in Atlanta through evidence-based strategies, including Rapid Rehousing and Permanent Supportive Housing solutions for those who are unhoused.
Paired with his passion for revitalizing the economic vitality of Downtown Atlanta and tenacity for advancement, Chris Womack’s influence has helped bridge the gap between business and civic leaders to solve Atlanta’s homelessness in a sustainable, scalable way. Led by Partners for HOME, the first phase of Atlanta Rising, known as Downtown Rising, successfully housed over 400 individuals living unsheltered downtown prior to the FIFA World Cup, providing them with long-term, secure housing.
Hope Rising
Hope Atlanta will honor Chris Womack as this year’s Individual Hero at our signature event, Heroes for Hope, taking place October 8th.
