Hit the Reset Button on Your Commute this Summer

By Rob Kelly, Senior Program Manager, Midtown Transportation

Rush hour traffic is back and gas prices are climbing, but the stress of a drive-alone commute doesn’t have to be inevitable. Whether you’ve already made your return to the office or you’re planning to report back soon, now is the time to consider hitting the reset button on your commute. Save some cash this summer and explore one of the convenient, environmentally friendly alternatives to driving into work every day.

In Midtown, our district is extremely well served by many of Atlanta’s public transit operators. Over 95% of buildings inside the Midtown Improvement District are located within a six-minute walk from 4 area MARTA Rail Stations. MARTA also operates 13 bus routes that connect local neighborhoods to convenient stops along Midtown’s street grid.

Live further out? Transit operators CobbLinc, Gwinnett County Transit, and Xpress offer longer distance commuter bus service starting from regional park and ride lots directly to Midtown. These routes take advantage of Georgia’s express and HOV interstate lanes to deliver you quickly and comfortably to more than 10 Midtown stops.

Atlanta’s buses feature amenities like electronic charging stations and WiFi that allow riders to connect and enjoy each ride. Midtown Alliance’s transportation page offers updated maps and ride information to help you find the best bus route on your daily commute.

Midtown Alliance is working on expanding the area’s network of lanes dedicated for bicycle and scooter use. The visibility of Atlanta’s bicycle commuter population grows each day, and many employers are providing modern bike storage and shower accommodations for this group.  Rentable e-scooters and e-bikes are a popular choice for Midtown residents and commuters looking to make speedy last mile connections from their homes or transit stops to the front door of their office.

Need a helpful nudge in the right direction of a new commute? Midtown Alliance’s team of experts creates free commuter route plans that provide customized guidance for your commute mode of choice. The Georgia Commute Options app is also a great tool that every commuter should keep handy. Recording commute trips via the app provides commuters with great cash and prize incentives to reward you for choosing a climate friendly commute.

Atlanta’s business and community leaders hold ongoing conversations about the future of work and the role that the physical workplace will play in building community and creating innovation. I hope you’ll join me and thousands of Midtown employees in re-thinking our daily commute!
