Intentional Investments: Truist's Commitment to Affordable Housing in Atlanta

Atlanta is one of Truist’s most important markets and home to thousands of its employees. Over the last few years, Atlanta residents and visitors have witnessed the growing presence of Truist in the city. From downtown Atlanta’s Truist Plaza to the home of our beloved Atlanta Braves at Truist Park, the name has quickly become adjacent to some of Atlanta’s well-known landmarks. However, the corporation’s commitment goes well beyond landmarks and banking.

For Truist, investing in Atlanta is also about helping its people, families, and neighborhoods build stronger futures.

Committed to Community

We can see Truist’s commitment to Atlanta through the company’s partnerships, volunteerism, philanthropy, and community development. That commitment also spans financial education, workforce development, and small business support to those within the community. Yet, it’s Truist’s belief that “strong communities are built when people have access to safe, stable, and affordable places to lives” that drives the corporation’s dedication to supporting affordable housing initiatives in Atlanta.

Deepening their role beyond solely providing capital, Truist is a fully vested partner in the work they fund – working alongside developers, public sector leaders, and nonprofits to create solutions that expand housing access. This commitment comes to life through intentional investments that are helping create and preserve affordable housing across Atlanta’s neighborhoods.

Intentional Investments

Truist’s recent investments in affordable housing across Atlanta are true testaments to the corporation’s purpose to inspire and build better lives and communities.

Truist’s commitment can be seen on Atlanta’s Historic Westside through Herndon Homes, supporting more than 275 units in the mixed-income affordable housing development that includes affordable low-income housing tax credit units and 30 unrestricted market-rate units. Together, Truist and Truist Community Capital provided nearly $200 million in project financing to help advance the project.

Lofts at TwentyFive is another recent example where Truist Community Capital partnered with developers and the City of Atlanta to help transform an existing Buckhead property into 623 units of workforce affordable housing. To support the project, Truist Community Capital provided a $65 million bridge loan, and partnered with the City of Atlanta to provide an additional $10 million needed to bring the development to life.

In another meaningful investment, Truist Community Capital provided just over $80 million in project financing for McCauley Park, helping to create affordable housing for more than 300 families – with access to on-site amenities, Beltline walkability, and proximity to the King Memorial MARTA Station.

These investments demonstrate the impact that thoughtful partnerships can have throughout Atlanta, and that same spirit of partnership extends to Truist’s ongoing support of Hope Atlanta.

Truist has been a partner to Hope Atlanta over the years, supporting our organization in meaningful ways. Ron Alston, senior vice president, Not-for-Profit & Government Banking Leader, has served on Hope Atlanta’s board of directors for two years – providing invaluable leadership and contributions. And last year, as the needs of our unhoused neighbors increased, the Truist Trusteed Foundations: Walter H. and Marjory M. Rich Memorial Fund supported our Renewing Hope campaign to help us increase our capacity to serve our clients and the unhoused community.
