Goodwill of North Georgia’s main mission is to put people to work, and this year’s graduating class once again makes good on that promise. Out of the 253 graduating from Goodwill training programs, 109 have already secured employment with companies such as Amazon, Kroger, Delta Airlines, Georgia Department of Transportation, and many others.
For each regional graduating class, Goodwill selects a top graduate as the official Graduate of the Year. This year’s Metro Graduate of the Year is India Watson, who is graduating through the Apartment Maintenance program. India has an incredible story of moving to Georgia on her own to pursue a better life for herself, experiencing the trials and tribulations of homelessness, and persevering and completing her Goodwill program to now become a top graduate.
“I just want to tell all the graduates, we all are leaders,” said Graduate of the Year India Watson. “Because we started something and then finished it, the future is going to follow in our footsteps. Look at me now, my smile is a miracle and it’s genuine. It could have turned out a whole lot worse if I didn’t go to Goodwill.”
Goodwill of North Georgia is currently one of the largest retail operations and workforce training agencies in the state and effectively identifies the workforce needs of communities by developing programs to train people across a breadth of career opportunities. Goodwill’s Career Centers have several training programs that students are able to complete for their graduation, including Customer Service, Environmental Services, Phlebotomy, Welding, Youth Employment Services, and much more.
