The much-anticipated Southern Post, a mixed-use development in downtown Roswell, celebrated its grand opening with a community block party on Thursday.

The free event included greetings from new retailers, restaurant food samplings, giveaways and live music from the Steele Peach Band, a statement said.

Southern Post is an approximately $100 million project located at 1055 Alpharetta Street near Canton Street.

The site is the location of the former Roswell Plaza Shopping Center and the anchor restaurant, Southern Skillet, which was in business for 30 years before closing in 2011.

In total, Southern Post spans four acres with 95,000 square feet of open office space and 40,000 square feet of restaurant and retail.

Businesses include Azotea Cantina Mexican restaurant, Silla Del Toro tapas restaurant, Bey Mediterranean Kitchen and Bar, Belux Coffee Roasters, Da Vinci’s Donuts, Amorino Gelato, BodyRokn Pilates Studio and Cavina Wellness.

Southern Post has 100 residents so far in its Chandler Residences, a statement said, which is a mix of luxury apartments and townhomes.

Virginia-based developer Armada Hoffler developed the project, which was delayed by the pandemic.

“We are excited to officially debut Southern Post to our Roswell community,” said Chelsea Forrest, vice president of Corporate Communications and Investor Relations at Armada Hoffler. “We have carefully curated a blend of primarily local retailers and restaurants and premier office tenants, forming an extension of downtown Roswell and a new gathering place for the area. We look forward to sharing this milestone and building long-lasting connections with our residents, tenants and neighbors.”

In a separate project, the Chambray Hotel will be located adjacent to Southern Post. Indigo Road Hospitality Group will manage the $30 million Hyatt collection boutique hotel, which is scheduled to open in 2025, according to the hospitality group’s website.
