More from Laura:
“This building is the National Book Bindery of GA building at 2395 Peachtree Road. It is probably more widely remembered as Oxford Too or Smith & Hawken. It now houses Peachtree Battle Antiques. It was designed by two very famous Atlanta architects — A Ten Eyck Brown and his associate Alfredo Barili Jr. This same team designed the US Post Office (now the MLK, Jr Federal Building), the Fulton County Courthouse, the original Rialto Theater and the Cyclorama.
There is a proposal by Branch Properties (owner of the Peachtree Battle Shopping Center) to demolish 85% of the existing building for the parking deck for a new development at the corner of Terrace Drive and Peachtree Road. The existing structure of the Bindery is approx 15,000 sq feet including additions from the 50s and 60s, the original structure as built by A Brown and A Barili is 6,132 sq feet. Branch Properties originally proposed to demolish the entire building but has now offered to keep approx 2,600 and demolish the remainder for a parking lot for the new development. I am trying to save the original 6,132.
The proposal is heading to the NPU B Zoning Committee this coming Tuesday (1/26/16) at 7PM at St Philip.”
