In the heart of Atlanta, a movement is growing. It’s not just about getting fit; it’s about families coming together, communities bonding, and neighborhoods that have long awaited their share of attention finally receiving it.
The Atlanta Beltline Partnership’s Free Family Fitness program is bringing new opportunities to several of our local communities, ensuring access to fitness resources and healthy options for all our neighbors.
A Commitment to Our Neighborhoods
The Atlanta Beltline is more than just a path; it’s a way of life for many. The corridor is often used to get to work and school as well as to connect with friends and neighbors.
The Free Family Fitness program, powered by the generous support of Kaiser Permanente, brings physical activity and play to Beltline residents of all ages. The program specifically targets neighborhoods that have traditionally lacked access to such resources, ensuring that the benefits of a healthy lifestyle are within reach for everyone.
Every Thursday through Sunday, several Atlanta parks along the Beltline have coaches and equipment ready for families to enjoy, including Arthur A. Langford Park, Westside Park, D.H. Stanton Park, James Bridges Field at Pittsburgh Yards®, and Washington Park. The full slate of Free Family Fitness classes, along with additional wellness activities for everyone at every activity level, can be found on the Atlanta Beltline website event calendar.
Promoting Health and Wellness
In partnership with Kidokinetics, the Free Family Fitness program serves as a platform for social interaction and community engagement along with encouraging physical activity.

Parent & Me Playdates are a fantastic way for parents and their kids (ages 2-12) to connect through play in 30-minute outings. The games and activities are all about having fun and staying active.
Grandparent & Me Playdates are 30-minute sessions perfect for children ages 2-12 and their grandparents. Whether it’s learning a new sport or engaging in a creative game, these playdates offer a unique way to bond and stay active together.
Learn 2 Ride Bike Club is a two-part, 60-minute class that will ensure kids learn how to ride a bike with confidence. Everything you need to get started is supplied, including bikes, helmets, and expert instruction to ensure a safe and enjoyable learning experience.
The classes are led by Kidokinetics coaches who are skilled at working with participants of all ages and fitness levels. This inclusive approach ensures that everyone, from children to grandparents, can take part in the activities. The focus is not just on physical health but also on fostering mental and emotional well-being through the joys of movement and play.
Building Multi-Generational Bonds Through Play
One of the most compelling aspects of the Free Family Fitness program is its emphasis on multi-generational participation. In today’s fast-paced world, families often struggle to find time to spend together. The program creates a space where family members can engage in activities side by side, strengthening their bonds through shared experiences.

Parents and children, grandparents and grandchildren – all can find common ground in the fun and create memories that will last. These sessions provide a rare opportunity for families to connect, communicate, and support each other in a positive, healthy setting. The benefits extend beyond physical fitness, fostering a sense of mutual respect that enriches family relationships.
Impacting Lives and Communities
The Free Family Fitness program underscores the importance of play in fostering a healthy, connected, and vibrant community. Moreover, the program highlights the importance of accessible recreational opportunities in urban planning. It serves as a model for other cities looking to bridge gaps in health equity and promote inclusive community development.
Do you know a family looking to enjoy some play time together? Or could these activities spark fun with you and your kids? Please share and join us at these exciting playdates and create wonderful memories with your loved ones!
