This Wednesday, United Way of Greater Atlanta officially adds another location to a long list of Learning Spaces. The grand opening of the East Point location at Impact Church on March 6 is open to the public.

Learning Spaces is an early learning initiative designed for caregivers, childcare providers, and children birth to five years old. Through collaboration with local libraries and early childhood professionals, it’s developed into preschool programs in non-traditional spaces. The program raises awareness about the role of a child’s first teacher and provides meaningful engagement with caregivers.

United Way’s 2023 Child Well-Being Outlook: Insights for Impact Report found that each of the 13 counties that make up Greater Atlanta saw a decrease in 3rd grade reading proficiency from 2019 to 2022, and 11 of the 13 saw a decrease in 8th grade math proficiency in the same time frame. Research shows that 3rd grade reading proficiency and 8th grade math proficiency are reliable indicators of future success in academics. By reaching children at the earliest stages of learning, we can build a foundation so that they’re prepared to enter the school system.

Can’t make it to the grand opening? Not a problem! The East Point Learning Spaces is open every Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. If the East Point location isn’t ideal, check out the list of the other 15 locations across Greater Atlanta.
