Motorcyclist Candy Hunter enjoys the thrill of the open road and says she is steering one of the largest independent motorcycle dealerships in the world.
As owner of WOW Motorcycles in Marietta, Hunter is forging a path in a male-dominated industry.
Last year, Hunter bought WOW Motorcycles from Guido Adriaessens, who founded the business in the 1980s as an export company selling motorcycles and other goods, she said. Hunter had worked with the business since 2002 and became part of its evolution.
Hunter will host an open house and stunt show event at the dealership on Sunday from 11 a.m.- 4 p.m. The event will feature music, vendors, food trucks, giveaways, and adrenaline-pumping shows by stunt performers Guru Khalsa and “Rowdy” Rodney Sargent at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
The dealership is located at 522 Cobb Parkway North in Marietta.
Visitors can also explore WOW’s collection, which ranges from vintage motorcycles to newer models.
“Motorcycles are such an important part of me,” Hunter said, recalling her early days around motorcycles, including a childhood photo — at the age of 18 months — when she was on a Honda Trail bike with her uncle. Her father, a police officer, also rode escort bikes.
“What I do doesn’t feel like work; it’s what I know,” Hunter said.
WOW is a destination for bikers who ride from the Atlanta metro area to other cities in the Southeast, she added. The dealership rents motorcycles.
Hunter said that she’s ridden motorcycles through South Africa, Australia, and Europe.
“It’s a way of life and a testament to breaking barriers, one bike at a time,” she said.
