Did you know that United Way of Greater Atlanta’s Volunteer Involvement Program (VIP) provides effective board governance training for professionals across the region? For more than 25 years, VIP has trained more than 2,200 graduates and connected them to more than 350 nonprofit organizations. Build your leadership skills, network with other professionals and increase you company’s reputation – all while making an impact on your community. Do you have what it takes to be a member of a nonprofit board?

United Way’s VIP is a 10-week training program develops and enhances leadership skills and increases diverse volunteer participation in nonprofit board and leadership positions in Greater Atlanta. Workshops include board roles and responsibilities, fundraising, strategic planning, ethics, marketing, and financial and legal decision making.

If you’re interested in VIP, you have to apply. The selection committee reviews applications
and selects no more than 25 individuals per class. Selection criteria is designed to
recruit a group of demonstrated leaders who are diverse in their ethnicity, profession and
community service.

VIP is offered in the spring, summer and fall. Trainings are either Monday or Wednesday, depending on what works for your schedule. If you’re interested in being part of VIP in the spring, the application deadline is Friday, February 16. You’ll need to provide a headshot with your completed application and email it to vip@unitedwayatlanta.org. Upon acceptance into the program, a $100 non-refundable Board Commitment Fee is due at the first training session and $400 fundraising exercise is due by the end of the program.

Mondays from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. on the following dates:
March: 12th, 19th, 26th
April: 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th
May: 7th, 14th

Wednesdays from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. on the following dates:
March: 14th, 21st, 28th
April: 4th, 11th ,18th, 25th
May: 2nd, 9th, 16th

  1. I applied, received an email asking which day I preferred. I replied back Wednesday’s and I never heard anything else, but I am still very much interested.
