Bill Crane, a longtime political analyst and the crisis communications consultant for the city of College Park is stepping down from his role, citing internal conflicts and a shifting environment within the city government.

Crane, who was hired in the summer of 2024, has submitted his resignation effective June 30. His firm, CSI Crane, which he co-leads with partner Bill Marks, holds a contract with the city that is set to expire on the same date. Crane said the decision was made after assessing “the ongoing shifts in the landscape in College Park, with potentially more of that to come.” Crane said the firm exercised a two-week notice clause included in the agreement.

“There had been no discussions or outreach regarding renewal,” Crane wrote in a public statement.

“Though it has been at times challenging work, we have enjoyed assisting the administration and elected leadership of the city and working to burnish the standing and reputation of what I still believe to be one of the true jewels of the metro Atlanta southside,” he said.

The spokesman pointed to internal tension and issues at city hall.

“Internal conflicts continue to cause outsized strain on community cohesion,” he said, and noted that although his team had made some progress in erasing that, “the momentum seems to be shifting away from that again.”

Last month, city council fired former City Manager Dr. Emmanuel Adediran. The following day four more employees were fired unexpectedly.

During a city council meeting on June 2, the four employees came together during public comment to demand answers for their firing and allege wrongful termination.

Crane praised the talent of the city’s public servants and left open the possibility of future work with College Park, pending interest from city officials.

Earlier this year, Crane publicly disclosed that he had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of colon cancer and was planning to have surgery at that time to remove a tumor.

The city of College Park has not responded to a request for comment.
