Last Friday, College Park Councilman Roderick Gay sent reporter Adrianne Murchison a letter of complaint about her reporting on the city. Gay also emailed city hall communications staff and spokespeople.

Councilman Roderick Gay’s letter of complaint
Formal Complaint Regarding Ongoing Bias and Defamation by Journalist Adrianne Murchison
I am writing to express serious concern regarding the continued reporting by Ms. Adrianne Murchison, formerly with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and now with SaportaReport. Her coverage of the City of College Park—and in particular, of myself as Councilman Roderick Gay—has become increasingly biased, misleading, and, in my opinion, legally defamatory.
After reviewing her reporting over the past 18 months at both publications, it has become apparent that many of her articles are not only slanted but appear to be written with an undue and persistent bias. The tone of her reporting is consistently negative, disparaging, and targeted, particularly toward the leadership and reputation of College Park. This is in stark contrast to the work of her peers at both outlets, whose reporting reflects more balanced, professional journalism.
Additionally, Ms. Murchison frequently includes unverified statements and commentary from interviewees without proper fact-checking or context, allowing unsubstantiated narratives to be published under the banner of credible journalism. This practice is both irresponsible and damaging.
It is my belief that Ms. Murchison has developed a personal bias against the City of College Park and specifically against me in my capacity as an elected official. This level of reporting is not only unethical, but potentially defamatory and harmful to public trust.
Therefore, I strongly recommend that the City of College Park take a formal and firm stance by submitting a written complaint to the editor and leadership of SaportaReport. While we uphold and respect freedom of the press, journalists employed by reputable outlets are expected to abide by professional standards and ethical guidelines—and should be held accountable when they fail to do so.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I welcome the opportunity to further discuss a response that protects the City’s integrity and holds media to the standards the public deserves.
Journalist Adrianne Murchison’s response
I respectfully disagree with Councilman Roderick Gay’s position that my reporting on the city of College Park is biased.
SaportaReport takes its mission of fair and fact-based journalism seriously. It is for that reason we decided to publish Councilman Gay’s column in full. We welcome differing points of view, and we hope to have an open line of communication with the various people involved in the stories we’re covering.
I began covering College Park around February 2023 while working for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and I have continued to cover the city for SaportaReport. I have consistently reached out to Councilman Gay and other city officials for comment on stories. My requests have often been declined, or no response has been provided. We stand by our reporting.
We look forward to having an open dialogue, and it is our hope that the City of College Park can resolve its differences for the greater good of the community.

You have barely scratched the surface of duplicity and corruption of some in College Park and south Fulton more generally, but at least what you have done has obviously prompted a reaction from the “barely but seldom competent and occasionally but not totally honest” Roderick ( I will sue you) Gay. I see much that goes on in College Park as a growing falling out among thieves varying only in degree and disputes of who got how much. I wish it were not so.
As a former College Park official, I witnessed Councilman Roderick Gay use his elected position for evil by threatening and harassing city employees when they refused to break the law. Councilman Gay uses the City Attorney as his shield and weapon. If a local business refuses to give him something free, he will mandate code enforcement to intimidate the owners. He is a con man who has used his elected position to pad his pockets.
Bias toward the truth might not be typical, but it isn’t legally actionable. I am sure you are serene on thàt worry.
