The Corporate Volunteer Council (CVC) of Atlanta kicked off its 2025 programming with a sold-out first-quarter meeting, AI for Social Impact Professionals: Harnessing AI for Good, held at Georgia Power Company’s Atlanta headquarters. The event offered a timely examination of the growing role of artificial intelligence (AI) in both professional and personal spheres, especially within the corporate social responsibility (CSR) and nonprofit sectors.

Judy Bowers, Director, Digital Mindset at McKesson, delivered a powerful keynote that underscored the importance of thoughtfully leveraging AI. She reminded attendees to be mindful of privacy concerns and to use discretion when entering sensitive information into AI platforms. Her message was clear: AI is a powerful administrative and creative companion, but humans must stay in the driver’s seat.

The program included a range of key topics, including:

  • Pop Culture 101 – How AI is shaping mainstream narratives and everyday life
  • Prompting 101 – The art of asking AI the right questions for better outcomes
  • AI Influencers & Critical Thinking – Separating fact from fiction in the AI space
  • Compliance & Risk – Understanding ethical considerations and emerging regulations
  • Building a Digital Mindset – Using AI for growth, innovation, and efficiency

The audience also heard from Jennifer Ray, Director of Technology Engagements for CVC nonprofit Member Partner, Apparo. Jennifer introduced Apparo’s AI for Social Good Playbook; a valuable resource designed to help nonprofits harness AI tools to advance their missions.

Attendees were treated to real-life examples of AI at work both personally and professionally, from crafting concise email responses to planning vacations! The overall takeaway: AI is best used as a launching pad. It can jumpstart creativity, streamline repetitive tasks, and enhance impact. This enhanced efficiency affords us more time to do what humans do best: lead with heart.
