There was no clear winner in Tuesday’s race for the vacant East Point City Council Ward B seat. Three of the four candidates in the special election received at least 30 percent of the vote.
Wednesday morning, candidates Jermaine Wright and Shean Atkins appeared headed to a runoff race on Dec. 3.
With just over 14,100 votes cast, unofficial results show Wright with a slight lead with 32 percent of the vote. Atkins followed with 31 percent and Marie Terry with 30 percent. Candidate Stanley Elder was trailing with 7 percent of the vote.
The winner of the runoff election will complete the term of former Councilwoman Karen René who resigned in March to run for Congress. She lost her candidacy for the U.S. House District 13 seat in the Democratic Primary in May.
David Scott, who won that race, was also victorious on Tuesday defeating Republican Jonathan Chavez with 72 percent of the vote.
