The Georgia Business Council will feature Meg Pirkle, P.E., Chief Engineer of the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), as the keynote speaker for its upcoming Executive Breakfast Series on May 6, 2026 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
The program will highlight the leadership perspective and practical experience that have defined Pirkle’s decades-long career in one of Georgia’s most critical public agencies.
The Executive Breakfast Series is designed to provide an intimate setting where accomplished leaders share their career journeys, leadership lessons, and strategic insights that can help small businesses grow and successfully navigate today’s complex business environment.
During this session, Pirkle will reflect on her professional path, the challenges she has encountered in large-scale infrastructure leadership, and the practical wisdom she has gained while guiding statewide initiatives that influence economic development and mobility across Georgia.
Pirkle has served as Chief Engineer for GDOT since January 1, 2015. In this capacity, she oversees the Divisions of Engineering, Construction, Operations, and Intermodal, as well as the Office of Engineering Services. She also provides executive oversight for the Divisions of Public-Private Partnerships and Program Delivery, which are responsible for managing the department’s approximately $4 billion statewide capital program.
Her leadership plays a significant role in aligning transportation investments with Georgia’s population growth, freight movement demands, and long-term economic competitiveness.
Pirkle began her career with GDOT in 1989 as an engineering trainee and has since held numerous positions spanning planning, preconstruction, and operations. Her progression reflects both technical mastery and a sustained commitment to public service.
She earned a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from Vanderbilt University and a Master of Civil Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, credentials that have supported her advancement into one of the most senior engineering leadership roles in state government.
