Georgia-based MAP International Recognized For Excellence

A commitment to accountability and transparency has paid off for Georgia-based MAP International (www.map.org) as the organization has earned Charity Navigator’s perfect score of “100” and its fifth consecutive four-star rating.

“Charity Navigator is a trusted source used by donors who want to ensure their gifts are being used as efficiently as possible,” said Steve Stirling, MAP International President and Chief Executive Officer. “We wholeheartedly welcome this review and we are honored to receive their highest rating,” Mr. Stirling said.

Each year, Charity Navigator evaluates the financial health, accountability and transparency of more than 8,000 of the largest non-profit organizations in the United States. With its annual distribution of more than $500 million in medicines and health supplies, MAP International consistently ranks as one of the largest charities in the United States.

“People can trust that their donations are going to a financially responsible and ethical charity when they decide to support MAP International,” said Michael Thatcher, President & CEO of Charity Navigator.

Using objective analysis, Charity Navigator awards only the most fiscally responsible organizations its 4-star rating, focusing on each organization’s governance, ethical practices and measures of openness.

“MAP International’s exceptional 4-star rating sets it apart from its peers and demonstrates its trustworthiness to the public. Only a quarter of charities rated by Charity Navigator receive the distinction of our 4-star rating. This adds MAP International to a preeminent group of charities working to overcome our world’s most pressing challenges,” Mr. Thatcher said.

MAP International is one of three non-profits in Georgia who received a perfect 100 score from Charity Navigator. Only 58 charities in the United States achieved scores of 100 on both financial performance and accountability.

Charity Navigator’s review of MAP International’s financial records showed that 99 percent of the organization’s total expenses were spent on the programs and services to people in need. Based on this scoring model, MAP earned a perfect 100 score on financial performance metrics.

MAP also received a perfect 100 score for accountability and transparency. Charity Navigator reviewed 17 key related metrics including CEO compensation, audited financials and donor privacy policies.

The recognition by Charity Navigator comes on the heels of other endorsements received by the organization. In October, MAP International was named to Good Housekeeping magazine’s list of “The Best Charities to Give to Right Now.
