Goodwill of North Georgia celebrated the grand re-opening of its Hamilton Mill store on Thursday, April 11, after undergoing internal renovations since February 2024. The Goodwill team has been working tirelessly to renovate many of its locations to revamp the shopping, donating, and working experience for everyone who supports the nonprofit.

The Hamilton Mill store and donation center, located at 3295 Sardis Church Road, Buford, GA 30519, has served the community since it was established in 2010. The residents of Northwest Gwinnett and the surrounding areas have had a place to shop and donate their gently used clothes, furniture, books, and technology for some time now.

Renovations for the Hamilton Mill store commenced in February 2024. The funding for the renovations was provided, in part, by the GoodUse Grant, which is a program initiated by Southface to aid nonprofits in reducing their utility costs and reinvesting the savings into their programs. Southface is a nonprofit organization that focuses on improving the efficiency, affordability, and environmental responsibility of all types of buildings and infrastructure. The GoodUse grant, in particular, caters to nonprofits’ sustainability and operational savings requirements.

“GoodUse provided Goodwill of North Georgia’s Hamilton Mill location with a matching grant and technical assistance to upgrade the efficiency of our store,” said Matthew Stegall, senior director of DGR stores for Goodwill of North Georgia. “Thanks to the GoodUse grant, Goodwill of North Georgia is already seeing significant savings on our energy costs. These savings allow Goodwill of North Georgia to invest more funding into serving our community. The team is excited about the new upgrades, and we are certain that our guests will love the new look.”

Goodwill has recently renovated several of its stores, including Cobb Parkway, Covington, Fayetteville, Hickory Flat, Northside, Jonesboro, Douglasville, Conyers, and Powder Springs. The Cornelia, Oakwood, and Winder stores have also been updated. The organization has plans to continue updating other locations in the coming months.

“We are thrilled to unveil our latest refreshed location as we look forward to continuing our tradition of offering top-notch experiences to our shoppers and donors for many years to come. Each purchase and donation contributes to our mission to put people to work,” Stegall added. When you shop at Goodwill, you’re supporting the nonprofit’s mission to Put People to Work. When items are sold in stores or online, those profits are used to fund skills training programs and job placement services. In fiscal year 2023, Goodwill of North Georgia was recognized as the number one Goodwill in the nation when it comes to people employed, helping more than 22,000 North Georgians get connected with jobs. Through the career centers and training programs, Goodwill serves veterans, people with disabilities, youth, single parents, the under-employed, people with criminal backgrounds, and anyone else looking for work.
