Indian Creek Station, which currently stands as an isolated station amidst a sea of parking at the end of MARTA’s Blue Line, is set to get a makeover that reflects changing ideas towards urbanism and transit.
MARTA continues to make waves, with one of the latest being the unveiling of their design for development of Indian Creek Station, to become “Indian Creek Village.” MARTA unveiled the design at an open house on March 30 at Electric Owl Studios, where over 200 people were in attendance, ready to give their input into the presented final plan.

Indian Creek Station, located in DeKalb County, is used in large part by commuters looking to park their cars and take MARTA deeper into the city.
This idea of commuting via car to a train station is very reminiscent of old Atlanta and how the city has been built in the past — car-orientated. Going forward, however, Indian Creek Village seemingly signifies a deeper commitment to urbanism and transit.
“The Indian Creek station area is envisioned as a Town Center activity center, with a focus on walkable, transit-supportive redevelopment,” reads a response in the FAQ section of the official project website.
Indian Creek Village will feature 1,600 rental units, along with restaurants, grocery stores, community centers, 300,000 square feet of office space, four acres of parks and greenspaces and a bus transfer facility.

The district will also still feature parking — 3,800 spaces to be exact. This is actually nearly 1,500 more than the 2,364 parking spaces the station currently features, however the 3,800 spaces will be distributed over 8 parking garages, according to the plans.
Indian Creek Village is planned to be completed in phases, with six phases outlined currently.

The next steps include a planning commission meeting on May 2, followed by a board of commissioners meeting on May 23. The hope is to get the area around the station rezoned to MU-4, which is a mixed-use high-density district.
A tentative timeline in the presentation indicated construction of the project could begin as soon as a year and a half after rezoning is completed. MARTA and DeKalb are partnered on the effort, while also enlisting services of various engineering and design firms around the city.
