MARTA is set to drastically change bus routes across the city this spring with the rollout of the NextGen Bus Network

Ahead of implementing the new routes, which take effect April 18, MARTA is hosting a series of open house events across the metro area to meet with riders and answer questions.

The redesign of the bus service network is the most comprehensive change to Atlanta’s buses in MARTA’s history. The updated system will eliminate dozens of routes in order to provide more frequent bus service in the areas with a high density of bus riders.

The NextGen Bus Network is projected to triple the number of residents who will live within walking distance of a bus route with service every 15 minutes. Prioritizing frequency without increasing the budget for Atlanta’s bus system meant MARTA consolidated 113 bus routes down to 79 routes in the new network.

Many riders expressed concerns about the changes during the public feedback period last year and MARTA staff will be onsite at train stations, libraries, and other community hubs throughout February to answer questions and help people plan their new bus routes.
