A real passenger train used to go through it. And it still should.
There are several old train stations in historic downtowns that can be upgraded for a commuter rail system. The $2B being spent on 400/285 and 75 HOT lanes would have been better spent on a commuter rail system.

When I was a freshman at UGA in 1965, I caught a passenger train there and got off in downtown Athens and walked to my dorm. Georgia politicians are indescribably stupid.

Ted…In fact I have been aboard a detouring Amtrak Crescent when Norfolk Southern had derailments and other operating problems forcing the Crescent to operate on CSX rails between Spartanburg, SC and Howell, Jct.(Atlanta) via Greenwood, SC and Athens in the mid-1980″s. I rode a similar detour between Atlanta (Howell, Jct.) and Birmingham, AL over what is now the Silver Comet trail. I have also ridden numerous additional (normally freight-train only…i.e. non-Amtrak) routes elsewhere in the eastern half of the nation aboard various rail cars which comprised a(then) private rail car fleet.
You’re right…it still should……and for some reason…..i do feel “brainier!”
