Wild Heaven Beer to host fourth annual Crab Trap and Tap
Wild Heaven Beer will host the fourth annual Crab Trap & Tap on Aug. 1 at its West End brewery, bringing together a traditional Maryland-style crab feast, live music and outdoor games.
The event will run from 1-4 p.m. at Wild Heaven West End, 1010 White St. SW, and will feature freshly steamed Maryland blue crabs supplied by Harbour House Crabs. For the first time, Atlanta restaurant EATS will provide a buffet that includes jerk chicken, macaroni and cheese, green beans, corn on the cob and garlic bread.
The event also will include DJ performances, lawn games such as cornhole and ladder golf, and indoor and outdoor seating. Beer, cocktails, wine, nonalcoholic beverages and the brewery’s Old Bay-rimmed EDB Micheladas will be available for purchase.
Tickets range from $25 for the Land Lover package to $115 for the Full Trap Feast VIP package, plus applicable fees. Organizers said the event has sold out in previous years and encourage advance ticket purchases.

TEDxAtlanta returns in October with expanded two-day conference
TEDxAtlanta will return Oct. 2-3 with its largest conference to date, expanding to a two-day format and introducing the inaugural TEDxAtlanta Youth event.
The conference will be held at Atlanta International School’s Sandy Springs campus and will feature TED-style talks, interactive Explore Sessions, workshops and guided discussions centered on this year’s theme, “Bold. Brave. Unbreakable.” The event will explore topics including technology, education, science, community innovation, leadership and the future.
New this year is TEDxAtlanta Youth, a conference designed for speakers ages 16 to 23. The program will provide a platform for young leaders to share ideas on innovation, technology, leadership and community while participating in dedicated speaker sessions and workshops on Oct. 3.
TEDxAtlanta, Georgia’s largest TED affiliate, has hosted more than 260 talks since its founding and has featured dozens of speakers whose presentations have later appeared on TED’s global platform. In addition to its annual conference, the organization hosts year-round salons, workshops and community events intended to foster civic engagement and idea sharing.

Westside Stride Block Party returns with Atlanta Streets Alive partnership
The Westside Stride Block Party will return Nov. 8 with an expanded car-free celebration along Howell Mill Road, marking the event’s first collaboration with Atlanta Streets Alive.
The free event will take place from noon to 6 p.m. on Howell Mill Road between 8th and 17th streets, where the roadway will be closed to vehicle traffic and opened to pedestrians, cyclists, skaters and scooters.
Now in its fourth year, Westside Stride will feature live music, DJ performances, a vendor and artist market, local restaurants and family-friendly activities, including bounce houses and a petting zoo. Attendees also will have access to Upper Westside shops, restaurants and businesses, with live performances planned outside Northside Tavern.
This year’s event will also benefit from expanded pedestrian and bicycle connections, including access via Tech Parkway and recently completed infrastructure improvements in the area. Vendor applications and additional event information are available at WestsideStride.org.

SCAD Atlanta launches music production degree program
The Savannah College of Art and Design will introduce a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in music production at its Atlanta campus beginning this fall, expanding its academic offerings in one of the nation’s largest music markets.
The new program will prepare students for careers in music production, audio engineering, songwriting, music supervision and related fields through coursework in composition, studio production, music for media and live performance.
Classes will be held at SCAD Film Studios in Midtown, where students will have access to professional production facilities, including editing suites, broadcast studios and an LED volume stage. The curriculum includes courses in music business, recording technology, digital mastering and studio production.
SCAD said the program will connect students with industry professionals through mentorship opportunities and academic programming. The university has previously partnered with artists and producers including Jon Batiste, Leslie Odom Jr., Jewel, Tricky Stewart, The-Dream and Laurie Anderson.
