Thought Leadership Views From Peachtree

Two Notable Buckhead Events Return

After a pandemic hiatus, two of Buckhead’s most anticipated annual events are returning this fall. Livable Buckhead’s PARK(ing) Day pops up at Lenox Square on Friday, September 17 and the Buckhead Business Association’s Taste of Buckhead comes to The Stave Room on Thursday, October 21.

PARK(ing) Day

The Lenox Square parking lot will become a wooded wonderland, complete with a patchwork of pop-up parks flanked by 100 trees brought in specifically for this event, one of the Southeast’s largest PARK(ing) Day celebrations. This is the sixth year that Livable Buckhead has hosted a local PARK(ing) Day event, joining a global project to temporarily convert parking spaces into creative places for art, play and activism.

The theme for Buckhead’s PARK(ing) Day 2021 celebration is “Where We Play,” and more than two dozen local businesses and organizations will  construct mini-parks with features ranging from a Zen garden to flower walls and bee hives to a collaborative mural installation. Parks will also feature interactive elements for the public, including Spin e-scooter safety training sessions, e-bike demonstrations and a putting green. Visitors will be asked to vote for their favorite mini-parks.

A new feature of this year’s PARK(ing) Day are the 100 trees that will be scattered among the mini-parks and arranged to create a tree-lined, curving path. Thematically this underscores the value of Atlanta’s tree canopy and the importance of protecting it. From a practical standpoint the trees creates space for physical distancing, one of several COVID-related safety protocols that will be in place during the event.

“Of all the events we had to cancel in 2020, PARK(ing) Day is the one that we missed the most,” said Denise Starling, executive director of Livable Buckhead. “PARK(ing) Day’s central purpose – to have fun and creatively celebrate what parks bring to our lives – is something we need now more than ever.”

PARK(ing) Day will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Lenox Square parking lot along Peachtree Rd. In addition to the mini-parks, the event also includes food trucks for the Buckhead lunch time crowd.

PARK(ing) Day is sponsored by Audi Atlanta, Simon Properies/Lenox Square, The Beck Group, Legacy Parking, Spin Scooters, Urban Enterprises, Tower Wine & Spirits. For more information on PARK(ing) Day, visit http://www.livablebuckhead.org/parkingday

Taste of Buckhead

This year marks 70 years since the Buckhead Business Association (BBA) was created to promote a positive business environment and contribute to the vitality of the Buckhead community. In October, BBA hosts one of Atlanta’s best tasting experiences featuring the best food and drink from Buckhead’s finest restaurants and vendors. The setting for this year’s Taste of Buckhead is the Stave Room at American Spirit Works in the trendy Sweetwater Design District. The event will feature culinary adventure and camaraderie with prominent chefs, mixologists, Buckhead Business Association members, and business and community leaders.

Guests will enjoy unlimited tastes from Buckhead’s premier restaurants along with samples of wine, beer and spirits. They can also browse products from exclusive vendors.

“We are thrilled about the way plans are coming together for the Taste of Buckhead,” said Michael Moore, president of BBA. “This is one of our biggest events and it is fantastic to bring it back in 2021. Buckhead’s hospitality industry is world-class, and we are looking forward to showcasing that for everyone at Taste of Buckhead.”

VIP tickets to the event include an ASW Distillery tour, access to the VIP area in The Stave Room’s new green space where specialty cocktails and exclusive food samples will be served, and chef demos and other entertainment and activities will take place. VIPs also gain access to the general admission area 30 minutes before it opens to standard ticket holders.

Tickets for Taste of Buckhead are on sale via the BBA website and are $50 for general admission, $100 for VIP. The event takes place on Thursday, October 21 from 6 to 9:30 p.m. with VIP access beginning at 5:30 p.m. The Stave Room is located at 199 Armour Drive NE.  For more information visit www.buckheadbusiness.org/taste-of-buckhead.
