Dean Rusk YMCA Early Learning Center, part of the YMCA of Metro Atlanta, recently partnered with University of West Georgia (UWG) and Family Service Assistants to meet the needs of local families during the holidays. More than 140 people attended the Y’s Family Day where UWG faculty and students equipped parents with tools to facilitate education-based activities at home and children received a lunchbox to take to school. Later in the month, with the help of Family Service Assistants, a group of school social workers and counselors, Thanksgiving dinner was made possible for 17 Early Learning Center families in need. The food, which came in boxes decorated by the child’s teacher, was donated by Lakeshore Learning, as well as parents, staff and community members.
The spirit of giving is alive and well with Delta Air Lines. The company recently volunteered with the YMCA of Metro Atlanta, participating in activities from landscaping and cleanup at Camp High Harbor to helping with homework and STEAM projects at Andrew and Walter Young YMCA and The Villages at Carver Family YMCA. Delta also donated 200 backpacks filled with school supplies to local students.
