The Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta will host three authors with perspectives on some of the urgent and controversial issues of today.

Separate events will feature Amanda Knox, U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer, and journalist and Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Anne Applebaum discussing their latest books and more.

“These events exemplify the mission of our Arts & Authors series, bringing powerful and relevant discussions to our community,” said Pam Morton, director of Arts & Authors at the MJCCA. “Each author brings a unique perspective on justice, history, and contemporary global challenges, providing audiences with an incredible opportunity to learn and engage.”

The MJCCA is located at 5342 Tilly Mill Road in Dunwoody.

On Thursday, Amanda Knox will discuss her book, “Free: My Search for Meaning,” as well as her life and journey through time on trial and imprisonment in Italy. Ultimately her conviction for the murder of housemate Meredith Kercher was overturned.

In January, an Italian court upheld a conviction against Knox for accusing an innocent man of the crime.

The book discussion begins at 7:30 p.m.

In April, Sen. Chuck Schumer will discuss the rise of antisemitism and his new book “Antisemitism in America.” Schumer draws on his own life and “sheds light on the challenges facing Jewish communities today and the importance of combating hatred and ignorance,” a statement said.

The Senate Minority Leader received a wave of criticism recently from his own Democratic Party for voting in favor of a bill to fund the government.

He told CBS News that he was doing what was best for the country when voting for the bill.

The senator’s book event will take place April 21 at 7:30 p.m.

Journalist Anne Applebaum will be in conversation with Atlanta Journal-Constitution political reporter Greg Bluestein on April 24 to discuss her latest book, “Autocracy, Inc.: The Dictators Who Want to Run the World.”

Applebaum is a staff writer for The Atlantic and a former longtime columnist for The Washington Post. Her book “Gulag” won a Pulitzer Prize for nonfiction in 2004.

A VIP cocktail and hors d’oeuvres reception with Applebaum will take place at 6 p.m. on April 24, followed by the book discussion at 7:30 p.m.

Visit the Marcus Jewish Community Center website for more information and ticket prices for the events.
