This school year, Learn4Life is launching The Atlanta Vision Project — a bold effort to bring free eye exams and glasses to every elementary student in metro Atlanta who needs them.
And there’s a simple, no-cost way for you to help: the PEACH Education Tax Credit.
This isn’t a donation. It’s a dollar-for-dollar tax credit. You already pay Georgia state income taxes — now you can choose where those dollars go.
Why It Matters
Nearly 50,000 students in our region need glasses but don’t have them. That’s 50,000 kids struggling to read the board, follow a book, or stay focused in class.
Vision plays a critical role in a child’s development, with 80% of all learning in the first 12 years coming through sight. When left unaddressed, vision impairments can contribute to increased levels of anxiety and depression among children, further affecting their well-being and success in school. But when students receive the glasses they need, the impact is powerful—studies show improvements in both attendance and academic performance, equivalent to gaining an additional 2 to 4 months of learning time.
How the Atlanta Vision Project Works
The Atlanta Vision Project brings care directly to schools. Three mobile vision providers — Vision To Learn, Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation, and Prevent Blindness — visit elementary schools to:
- Screen students for vision issues
- Provide eye exams
- Fit students with free glasses at school
It’s fast, effective, and removes every barrier — cost, time, transportation — so kids can see clearly and thrive in the classroom.
What’s the PEACH Education Tax Credit?
The PEACH Education Tax Credit lets individuals and businesses redirect their state taxes to support innovation in Georgia’s public schools.
When you apply, you can designate your support for programs like The Atlanta Vision Project. Then, when tax season comes, you get 100% of it back as a credit on your Georgia taxes.
