If you have watched the news lately, you have seen the devastation from Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria. You may be wondering how you can help our friends, neighbors and fellow American citizens, on the mainland and in U.S. territories.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Maria, millions of Puerto Ricans are without power, running water and other basic needs. The CDC Foundation is working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to support our neighbors affected by this extreme hurricane season, tackling emerging and long-term health threats. Given widespread damage, it is anticipated that public health needs will continue to be identified.

To provide public health support in Puerto Rico following the devastation caused by recent hurricanes, Kaiser Permanente announced a $1 million contribution to the CDC Foundation. While many organizations respond with aid during a disaster, the CDC Foundation’s role is unique because it supports CDC’s team as it tackles health threats that arise in the days, weeks, months and even years after an emergency. This generous contribution will support recovery and rebuilding of public health infrastructure and longer-term emergency preparedness.

With so many people and communities affected in the wake of these storms, the CDC Foundation has extended the support of our Emergency Response Fund to respond to all of the recent hurricanes.

Your donation to the CDC Foundation can make an important, immediate difference for CDC and its partners who are working on the frontlines in the hurricanes’ aftermath. Your generosity will ultimately help save and improve lives on the ground. Right now your support is critical to fill gaps and provide flexible, immediate resources to CDC experts in times of crisis. Nowhere is the power of collaboration more visible than when preparing for and responding to emergencies. Together our impact is greater.

I urge you to join with us by providing a donation to support our Emergency Response Fund. The time to act is now. Give today.
