Atlanta City Council candidate Q and A: District 11

By Maggie Lee
Parts of southwest Atlanta like Cascade, Campbelltown Road and Greenbriar are going to get a new City Council member this year. The eight folks running say their concerns are things like jobs, poverty, preservation, safety and getting ready for the growth that’s coming to southwest Atlanta.
Incumbent District 11 Councilwoman Keisha Lance Bottoms is making a run for mayor this year instead of seeking a return to Council. So the district will get a freshman lawmaker. Click to read the Q and As with the eight candidates who qualified to have their name printed on the ballot:
Update: the runoff candidates are Harold Hardnett and Marci Overstreet
Overstreet is far and away leading in fundraising. She reported having raised some $61,000 through Sept. 30. That’s just a little bit less than the next three candidates combined — Johnson, Hardnett and McCorkle — each of whom reported having raised about $20,000. McCorkle’s total includes a $2,800 loan to her campaign.
No other candidate reported breaking the $15,000 mark.
Early voting starts on Oct. 16. The election is on Nov. 7. If necessary, a runoff will be held Dec. 5.
