Early voting underway in nine-candidate Atlanta City Council race

Nine people are looking to join Atlanta City Council, in a west side special election to fill the seat of the late Councilman Ivory Lee Young Jr.

Early voting is open weekdays from Monday, Feb. 25 through Friday March 15 at the Fulton County Government Center at 141 Pryor Street, SW.

Election Day voting is March 19.

In alphabetical order, these are the candidates, each with a link to their official campaign page.

Byron Amos was first elected to the Atlanta Board of Education in 2011 and is looking to switch to City Council.

Antonio Brown is an entrepreneur and founder of a men’s fashion brand, LVL XIII.

Ricky Brown is founder and CEO of a staffing company, Next Step Staffing.

Matthew Cardinale is founder and news editor of Atlanta Progressive News.

Greg Clay has worked in several types of local government management posts in several cities.

Erika Estrada is a CPA who has worked at several companies.

Mesha Mainor is a longtime physical therapist, and most recently a center director at Emory.

Jabari Simama has served two terms on Council in the past, as well as having held several posts in the executive branch of the city.

Shalise Young is the widow of Councilman Young. She’s worked at several nonprofits in the social work space and is a minister.

If no candidate gets more than half the votes, a runoff will be held on April 16.

    Hi Maggie – the article mentions the one lone early voting polling station in this race as the Fulton County Courthouse, but the polling station is in the Fulton County Government Center at 141 Pryor St. SW, which is across the street from the Courthouse.     Just saw this – the most accurate yet:

    One early voting poll will be open starting Monday, February 25 to Friday, March 15 from 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the Fulton County Government Center located at 130 Peachtree Street, SW, Atlanta 30303. No weekend voting provided. Election Day is Tuesday, March 19, 2019.
