Skeptics, and there were plenty of them at the time, called it the “Chicken Noodle Network.” But 40 years ago, Atlanta was the birthplace of a revolution in news reporting. On June 1st, 1980, Ted Turner launched the Cable News Network, CNN. It was a bold experiment no one had dared try before – 24- hour news, seven days a week, beamed skyward to orbiting satellites.

CNN’s Jeff Zucker: ‘Donald Trump has made American journalism great again’

One outcome of President Donald Trump’s tirade against CNN and other news organizations is probably not the outcome the White House wanted.

Viewership is up at CNN and virtually all the cable news networks, according to Jeff Zucker, president of CNN Worldwide, who spoke at an Atlanta Press Club Newsmaker Luncheon Tuesday at the Commerce Club.

“Donald Trump has made American journalism great again,” Zucker told the audience of about 200 people.

AT&T, now seeking merger with Time Warner, could have been based in Atlanta

News of AT&T acquiring Time Warner brought up all these feelings of “cudda, wudda, shudda” for Atlanta.

Not only does Time Warner own the formerly-independent Turner Broadcasting System – including CNN, which is based in Atlanta but controlled from New York.

But Texas-based AT&T acquired the former Atlanta-based BellSouth Corp., a move that changed the city’s telecommunications profile forever.
