In early March, Mitzi Schepps’ mobile veterinarian business, Wellness Waggin’, was thriving. Born out of a desire to help pets stay healthy and help alleviate pain through alternative treatments, Wellness Waggin’ provided acupuncture, laser therapy and other procedures to pets across Cobb County and metro Atlanta through-in home visits. Schepps’ business model relied heavily on the ability to travel and provide personalized care where pets are most comfortable – their homes.
ARC funds $1.6 million in study grants to improve neighborhoods, including Little Five Points
The ongoing effort to retool Atlanta’s Little Five Points neighborhood into a more pleasant place to spend time got a lift Thursday when the Atlanta Regional Commission included the neighborhood on a list of 10 recipients who will share a total of $1.6 million in study grants awarded through the LCI program.
State grants available for projects to help people view wildlife, plants, habitats
The state has opened its competition for grants of up to $3,000 for projects that help the public learn about and view animals, plants and habitats – especially those that are listed as conservation priorities in the State Wildlife Action Plan.

Atlanta Community Foundation reaches $1.1 billion in assets
The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta has reached a new milestone – it now has $1.1 billion assets, according to its unaudited 2017 Annual Report released on Tuesday.
The annual report also states that the Foundation awarded $100 million in grants to 3,100 nonprofit organization – locally, nationally and internationally. More than 70 percent of those grants were made to nonprofits in the 23-county metro Atlanta region, the Foundation’s area of expertise.
