All Atlanta voters have a say on this question in November: whether to transfer an Atlanta school board leader over to City Council or opt for the candidate who’s represented all or part of the city on council for more than a decade.
Incumbent Michael Julian Bond and challenger Courtney English have both courted voters citywide.
In 2009, voters elected Bond to the Post 1 at large City Council seat, returning him to a body where he’d served in a west and northwest district seat years before.
In that same election, English won an at-large post on the Atlanta Board of Education, his first elected office.
So we asked both candidates about their priories, their ideas and their opinions about Council. Click to read the Q & A:
English raised funds faster than Bond in the latest available campaign finance reporting period: in the three months to June 30, English reported raising $34,742 for his campaign. Bond reported raising $17,526 in the same time period.
As an incumbent, Bond can roll over donations unspent in previous campaigns. Bond reported $18,357.69 cash on hand as of June 30.
English declared his intent to run last year and had more than $94,000 in his coffers as of June 30 this year.
The election is on Nov. 7.
The deadline to register to vote is Oct. 10.
