The former CEO of the Atlanta Housing Authority – Renee Glover – has written a letter to Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms and members of the Atlanta City Council – seeking to open lines of communication with the new administration.
Glover’s letter also was an attempt to make the new mayor “aware of my record at AHA and know that the claims made against me by former Mayor Kasim Reed are false and defamatory.”
Atlanta business leader William G. Nordmark III, co-founder of the Atlanta Friendship Initiatve, died suddenly Monday evening of a brain aneurysm.
Nordmark, 69, was the kind of business leader who was all in. When co-founded the Atlanta Friendship Initiative two years ago, it became his life’s calling.
The Chattahoochee Riverkeeper and the Bobby Jones Golf Course Foundation have negotiated an agreement that would have less environmental impact on the 25-foot buffers along Tanyard and Peachtree creeks.

She has lived her entire 65 years in Gwinnett, one of the few among the county’s 920,260 residents as of a year ago. When she was born, Gwinnett had fewer than 40,000 residents.

A developer seeking to do a transit-oriented development at the Peachtree Center MARTA Station got a green light Thursday at an agency committee meeting.

It’s official. Brian McGowan, president and CEO of the Atlanta BeltLine Inc., will become CEO of the Greater Seattle Partners, a new regional economic development organization in Seattle, Washington.
“I really struggled with this decision,” McGowan said in a telephone interview shortly after formally accepting the position. “I do love Atlanta. I’m always going to try to stay connected to Atlanta.”
Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms on Monday said the city has narrowed its search for an airport general manager to five finalists.
In a brief interview with a couple of reporters after speaking to the Rotary Club of Atlanta, Bottoms said she would not disclose the names of those finalists because “these people are all employed.”
Back in May 2017, the Atlanta City Council voted unanimously for the city to transition to 100 percent clean energy for municipal operations by 2025 and 100 percent clean energy for the entire city by 2035.
Now the city is saying – “Not so fast.”
The Atlanta City Council will consider a resolution by its Utilities Committee to push back those deadlines to 2035 for municipal operations and for the entire city by 2050.
Former Atlanta Mayor Andrew Young views the past 45 days as a needed break from the ultra-busy life he has led as a global leader for more than six decades.
Young fell ill in May during a trip to Nashville where he was to give a speech at the baccalaureate at Fisk University – immediately getting admitted to the Vanderbilt Medical Center and then transferred to Emory University Hospital.
For more than three decades, Roy B. Cooper was an economic development icon working at the Metro Atlanta Chamber.
Cooper, 91, died on June 11. A service in his honor was held Sunday at the A.S. Turner & Sons funeral home in Decatur.
A move is afoot, once again, to close the City of Atlanta’s Eastside Tax Allocation District – a financial mechanism that encourages equitable redevelopment.

In life, sometimes one is lucky enough to encounter people who have a special spark – exuding warmth with substance.
Wilton Looney was one of those special people.
Looney died early Friday morning. He may have just turned 99, but he still was too young to have left us.

When he was only 18 years old while at Northeastern University, Jeffrey A. Parker picked the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority for his internship so he could get a free transit pass. That launched Parker’s public transit career and led to him becoming MARTA’s new CEO and general manager. The MARTA board is scheduled to vote on Parker, the sole finalist, at a March 23 board meeting.

The Home Depot Foundation will be springing into spring with a $6.3 million commitment in Atlanta’s Westside communities.
The company foundation will hold its “Springing into Service” day on March 20 – the first day of Spring, when about 100 associates will be volunteering on community projects, including working at Vine City Park and making external home repairs at a couple of nearby houses with Westside residents.
