ORLANDO, Fla – Atlanta-based Purpose Built Communities is continuing its national march to transform struggling neighborhoods across the country.
At its annual conference, Purpose Built announced it’s adding two new communities to its network: Wilmington, Del. and West Palm Beach, Fla. Purpose Built also has invited another unannounced city to join the network – giving it a total of 20 communities.
The City of Atlanta has named a new commissioner of parks and recreation: John Dargle Jr., who has extensive experience running departments of parks and recreation throughout the country.
Clark Atlanta University President Ronald A. Johnson submitted his resignation Friday after a meeting with his board of trustees.
Johnson was named president of Clark Atlanta on March 31, 2015. The historically black college celebrated its 30th anniversary as a stand-alone institution on July 1, the same day that Johnson marked his third year as CAU’s president. In 1988, Clark Atlanta was formed as a result of a merger between Atlanta University, founded in 1988, and Clark College, founded in 1869.

Tino J. Mantella, a veteran executive who led the Technology Association of Georgia (TAG) from 2004 to 2016, will be the new president and CEO of the Turknett Leadership Group.
In his 12 years at the helm of TAG, Mantella grew the organization from fewer than 500 members to more than 36,000.

At the Atlanta Police Foundation’s Crime is Toast breakfast Tuesday morning, Coca-Cola CEO James Quincey announced that the company was making a $2 million gift to the foundation’s upcoming Vision Safe Atlanta campaign.
Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms also announced both she and Quincey had agreed to co-chair the Atlanta Police Foundation’s $35 million capital campaign, which will build at least one new @Promise Youth Center on the Southside along Metropolitan Avenue.

The railroad company ranked as No. 284 on the Fortune 500 list, currently is based in Norfolk, Va. It opened its current 21-story headquarters in Norfolk in 1988. The headquarters relocation could bring as many as 1,400 jobs to Atlanta.
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has awarded a total of $622,000 in grants to Achieve Atlanta and the Atlanta Public Schools to support their efforts for college success.
One grant for $532,000 will go to the Network for School Improvement. That will enable Achieve Atlanta to work with the APS data team to build a technical platform that will allow students to identify good “match and fit” colleges while they are in high school.

The Chattahoochee Riverkeeper and the Bobby Jones Golf Course Foundation have negotiated an agreement that would have less environmental impact on the 25-foot buffers along Tanyard and Peachtree creeks.

A developer seeking to do a transit-oriented development at the Peachtree Center MARTA Station got a green light Thursday at an agency committee meeting.
MARTA recommended the venture of RD Management and Kelco/FB Winecoff LLC as the preferred developer to build on the southwest corner of the MARTA Peachtree Center Station – a small piece of property that’s only 8,000 square feet.
